How we are set up
The City of Logan Charitable Trust is a public ancillary fund established in 2017. It is a beneficial enterprise established by Logan City Council and operates as an independent legal entity for the benefit of the city.
In practice, this means we have the governance and accountability expected of a council-established entity, while focusing our work on raising funds and distributing grants to eligible charities.
Our Story
The Trust was established in 2017. Since then, the board and supporters have grown the Trust’s reach — funding local projects and building a stronger platform for future grants. Today, we are focused on being active, visible, and responsive — staying close to local charities and the people they serve.

With more than 35 years of experience in the healthcare sector, Dr John Gilmour brings exceptional leadership, compassion, and strategic insight to his role as Chair of the City of Logan Charitable Trust.
A Physiotherapist by profession, John has dedicated his career to improving health outcomes and supporting people experiencing disability and social disadvantage. He spent over three decades with the Mater Hospitals in Brisbane, including 12 years as part of the Executive Leadership Team, before serving as CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland from 2018 to 2022.
John’s governance experience spans more than 35 years, serving on multiple boards across the health and not-for-profit sectors. He currently holds several significant leadership roles, including:
Board Chair, Help Enterprises – supporting people with intellectual disability across South East Queensland
Board Chair, Karuna Hospice Services Ltd – providing specialised home-based palliative care in Brisbane
Board Chair, Holy Cross Services Ltd – delivering commercial services in the health and aged-care sectors to create employment for people with disability and disadvantage
A Doctorate graduate from the University of Queensland (2002) and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (2015), John was awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2018 for his outstanding service to the community through leadership in not-for-profit health infrastructure and social impact.
His wealth of experience, commitment to inclusive care, and deep community focus make him a valued and inspiring leader within the City of Logan Charitable Trust.

A passionate advocate for the Logan community, Mayoress Ali Raven is dedicated to driving meaningful and lasting change. With extensive experience in leadership, community development, and local government, Ali leads with heart and purpose.
As Deputy Chair of the City of Logan Charitable Trust, Ali plays a pivotal role in shaping the Trust’s direction and impact. Ali has been instrumental in securing vital funds that directly support local charities and initiatives. Her long-term vision is to grow the Trust’s capacity to create sustainable, long-term giving that enhances the City of Logan community.
Beyond her leadership with the Trust, Ali serves as patron to numerous community organisations, championing causes that strengthen wellbeing, inclusion, and opportunity. Her deep community ties and genuine compassion continue to inspire collaboration and positive outcomes.
Professionally, Ali brings a wealth of expertise in local government, governance and legislation, business process improvement, and communications. She holds certifications as a Prosci Change Management Practitioner, IAP2 Community Engagement Specialist, and Justice of the Peace (Qualified), credentials that reflect her commitment to integrity, good governance, and effective leadership.

With more than 50 years of experience across the accounting profession, Russell brings extensive expertise and strategic insight to his role as a Director of the City of Logan Charitable Trust. His career spans multiple disciplines, including audit, cost accounting, business valuations, corporate restructures, forensic investigations, taxation consulting, and family business advisory.
A passionate supporter of the Not-for-Profit (NFP) sector, Russell has dedicated much of his professional life to strengthening governance, financial sustainability, and transparency across charitable organisations.
His long-standing service includes:

As part of his work with CAANZ, Russell co-authored the influential discussion paper “Establishing a Reserves Policy for Charities and Not-for-Profits” (2020) and has presented at numerous conferences and webinars on key topics including fundraising, governance, and taxation in the NFP sector.
Through his leadership and deep financial expertise, Russell provides invaluable guidance to the Trust, helping ensure sound governance, strategic direction, and the continued growth of its charitable impact within the City of Logan.

Stewart Fleming is a seasoned entrepreneur and community leader with a track record of founding and managing over 30 businesses across diverse sectors. As the founder of Performance Studios in Loganholme, he has created a hub for artistic and personal development, offering coaching for singers and business professionals alike. His ventures also include Club Noir, a premier event space revitalizing Logan’s nightlife, and Barefoot Fish, a chain of ichthyotherapy spas promoting wellness in Queensland.
Beyond his business pursuits, Stewart has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to community service. His roles have included President of the Logan Chamber of Commerce, President of INNOV8 Logan, and Secretary of Logan Angels, reflecting his dedication to fostering local innovation and support networks. His volunteer work spans from Meals on Wheels to leadership positions in educational and scouting organisations, both in Australia and abroad.
Stewart’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Information Technology from QUT and an MBA from the University of Wales, underscoring his blend of technical expertise and strategic acumen. As a Director of the City of Logan Charitable Trust, he continues to leverage his extensive experience to drive sustainable, positive impacts within the Logan community.

With an accomplished career spanning Human Resources, Employee Relations, and Operations, Sheridan brings a wealth of strategic and people-focused expertise to her role as a Director of the City of Logan Charitable Trust.
For much of her career, Sheridan specialised in Human Resources and Employee Relations, holding senior positions across the education, health, manufacturing, and retail sectors, as well as running her own consultancy. Six years ago, she took on a new professional challenge, transitioning into operations leadership. She now leads a team of 13 as the State Manager for BWS Queensland, overseeing large-scale retail operations with a focus on people, performance, and culture.
Sheridan has served on numerous governing boards in both voluntary and appointed roles across government, education, childcare, safety, and health. Her most recent appointment prior to joining the Trust was a three-year term on the AHPRA Queensland Nursing and Midwifery Board, where she played an active role in professional regulation and governance.
A committed lifelong learner, Sheridan holds university qualifications in Arts, Psychology, Business, Human Resources, and Applied Law (Masters level) and is a trained and experienced mediator. Her broad expertise spans strategic planning, legal and financial oversight, governance, WHS, human resources, and operational management.
In 2023, Sheridan was honoured with the National People’s Choice Award at the Endeavour Group’s Imprint Awards, recognising the positive and lasting impact she makes through her leadership, authenticity, and care for others.
Creative by nature, Sheridan enjoys bringing fresh ideas and energy to her work and community roles. Through the City of Logan Charitable Trust, she is passionate about using her skills, experience, and connections to give back, supporting initiatives that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
